In today’s culture, peace can be elusive. We are in constant communication with others by phone, text message, or social media. The unceasing claim upon our time by needy individuals can be exhausting. Not to mention the endless stream of bad news from around the world. All of this can leave us frazzled and broken. Where can we turn for any release?

Jesus encouraged his disciples in the Gospel of John by saying, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27)

This holiday season take some time away from the chaos and division this world so subtly incorporates into your life. Turn off your phone, take a break from social media, don’t allow the anxiety of others to bring disarray into your day. Take some time to pray, enjoy a quiet time by reading a devotional, or encourage a hurting friend. In this way you are proclaim the peace of God in your own life and as a witness to others. This will bring glory to God and peace on earth.
