It is that time of year again when Halloween passed and Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays line up waiting for attention, people, candy canes and other food. Somewhere between costumes, menus and gift buying, there doesn’t seem to be much time left.

What is the bell-shaped curve?

There’s increasing emphasis for both private and public sectors to focus on “above average” people in certain skills. This clearly eliminates 50% of the population, who fall on the left side of the “bell-shaped curve.” And what is this “curve?”

LPD responds to murder, suicide

Court records indicate that a mother and her two teenage sons were slain last week in a South Lubbock home as a result of domestic violence that culminated in in what appears to be a murder-suicide.

What’s the most important position on a football team? I vote for the center. Some pay more attention to the quarterback or running backs, but without the center they’d just be standing around. The center starts each play.

'Noooooo!' I exclaimed upon witnessing a potential defacing of one of our books recently. Two youngsters accompanied their mother into the juvenile section here at Rhoads Memorial Library when I noticed they had candy with them.

Workbench in the Man Cave

(Something triggers a memory) and I’m taken back through time to the basement of our Mycenae home. We called it the cellar and it was the original Man cave. I’m a young girl alone in a far corner of our damp and musty cellar. Cinder blocks go from floor to ceiling to make cellar walls.

Really ancient food

Sometimes I wonder how our ancient ancestors survived without foods like breakfast cereal and ice cream. But maybe they didn’t realize what they were missing, because pre-historic television commercials got such poor reception.

Fear and greed tend to expand the size of government, as well as creating “a crisis.” Conjuring illusionary crises and promoting fear as a pretext for more government power is nothing new.
