Texas Senate, House open budget negotiations

Conferees from both chambers met publicly for the first time on Tuesday, promising an amicable process that will lead to a strong state budget. Five representatives, led by House Appropriations chair and Friendswood Representative Greg Bonnen, and five senators, led by Senate Finance Committee chair and Houston Senator Joan Huffman, will work to resolve the outstanding differences in their prospective budget proposals.

Naz, Hart tracksters qualify for regionals

It was a big Area track meet for the Castro County 1A athletes last week, with around 24 qualifying to compete at Regional individual and relay events, with 19 from Nazareth and five from Hart. The Nazareth girls team won a team first place, with the Naz boys earning fifth place; Hart girls and boys teams were both eighth.

Swiftettes basketball camp set for May 22-25

The Nazareth Swiftettes basketball camp is scheduled for May 22-25, with camp directors Eric Schilling and Whitney Bryan along with former Swiftettes players. The camp is a great opportunity for young players entering kindergarten through ninth grade to improve their basketball skills with an emphasis on fundamentals.

The 2023 Swift Baseball Camp is scheduled for May 22-25 with camp directors Tyler Goodwin and current Swifts players. The camp is for youth entering kindergarten through those entering the ninth grade.

Bobcats shut out Hornets

The Dimmitt Bobcats defeated Tulia on Saturday, 19-0, as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. The offensive kicked off in the first inning when Mario Lopez doubled on a 2-2 count, scoring two runs.

Bobcats fall to River Road

While both the Dimmitt Bobcats and River Road Wildcats had their offenses going, the Bobcats fell 21-11 in a high scoring game. River Road got things going with a single home run and marched on racking up runs through the sixth and final inning, taking the lead the rest of the game in the third inning.

The Dimmitt Bobcats watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 6-4 loss to Friona last Tuesday. Friona got the edge in the second inning with three runs to Dimmitt’s single run.
