In advance of the Region 1 baseball playoffs, the Nazareth swifts won a victory over New Home, 6-2. The Swifts drew a bye in the bi-district round and advanced directly to the regional quarterfinals beginning on Thursday.

Bobcats defeated by Friona 12-7

The Dimmitt Bobcats fell to the Friona Chieftains, 12-7, finalizing a season of baseball. The Chieftains scored five runs in the first inning to take strong lead.

Bushland softball coach resigns after arrest

The Bushland Independent School District confi rmed that the head softball coach has resigned after being arrested on Saturday on state charges of solicitation of prostitution in Lubbock. The Lubbock County Jail inmate list noted that Blair was in custody for three days before being released on bond According to an announcement by the district, now-former middle school cross country and Coach John Blair told the Bushland ISD of his arrest over the weekend and immediately resigned, before being directed not to return to district property.

Bobcats fall to Bushland, 19-0

The Dimmitt Bobcats watched the game slip away last Tuesday and couldn’t recover in a 19-0 loss to Bushland. Bushland got the first inning started, jumping out ahead by seven runs, added another two in the second inning and a big nine runs in the third.

Shaquille O’Neal to open Big Chicken in Lubbock

Big Chicken, a fast-casual restaurant featuring the favorite foods of basketball player Shaquille O’Neal and his famous friends, is expected to make an entrance into Lubbock in the near future. Big Chicken, created in part by O’Neal, plays upon some of his catchphrases, like “Can you dig it?” The first Big Chicken locations have been opening in several locations across North Texas, with a goal of more than 50 planned across the state.

DHS track & field advances to regionals

Dimmitt track and field competed at the 3A Area 03/04 meet on Friday in Denver City at Mustang Stadium. Five athletes will be advancing to the Regional meet in Abilene on April 28-29 at Elmer Gray Stadium.
