DHS powerlifters score top medals

The Dimmitt Powerlifting teams charged into the season, competing at the Plainview Invitational Meet this past Saturday, and brought home some medals. The Dimmitt Bobbies, who compete in the Texas High School Womens Powerlifting Association (THSWPA), took top team honors the meet with six DHS athletes bringing home first place medals out of the 47 lifters competing in nine weight class divisions.

The Bobcats claimed a handy win against the Friona Chieftains on Friday night, 55-30. Dimmitt took a five-point lead in the first quarter, 9-4, with the offense continuing to outshoot Friona in the second quarter, to close out the first half, 23-10.

Swiftettes defeat Ladyhorns 87-4

The Nazareth Swiftettes claimed an overwhelming victory over the Hart Ladyhorns on Friday, 87-4. Nazareth was totally dominant in both offense and defense in all four quarters.

Swifts fall narrowly to Farwell, 51-50

The Nazareth Swifts fell in a close game against the Farwell Steers, 51-50. The Swifts took the lead in the first quarter, 13-9, and held onto the lead going into halftime, 27-23.

Swiftettes defeat Lady Wolverines

The Nazareth Swiftettes won a victory over the Springlake Lady Wolverines on Tuesday, 62-21. The Swiftettes charged out in the lead in the first quarter, 24-7, and continue to out-shoot their opponents through the second quarter, ending the first half with a 38-10 lead.

Coach Gustafson dies at 91

Former University of Texas baseball coach Cliff Gustafson, once the winningest college baseball coach of all time, died on Monday at the age of 91. Gustafson coached at Texas from 1968 until 1996 where he won two national championships and 1,466 games, a record that was later broken by his successor, the late Augie Garrido, and then again by former Florida State coach Mike Martin.

Bills player collapses from cardiac arrest

Tragedy struck the Buffalo Bills during a Monday NFL game against the Cincinnati Bengals, when Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed just moments after getting up from an open field tackle. The play involving 24year-old Hamlin happened early in the game regarded as an important matchup with both teams trying to stay in contention for top conference seeding in the NFL playoffs.
