Here at Rhoads Memorial Library, the March Display of the Month features items touting the upcoming Ogallala Quilt Festival of 2024 set for April 5-6. Jill Craig of Plainview is exhibiting some quilted creations along with tools of the trade; she is a member of the Ogallala Quilters Society.

Two Castro County 4-H Robotics Teams competed in the Texas Tech GEAR (Get Excited About Robotics) 3-run practice contest this past weekend to prepare for the contest on April 13. Nazareth Elementary team, the SwiftCatHorns includes team members Bensen Birkenfeld, Sawyer Gibson, Mason Mireles and Griffon Neinstat. The Junior team, the Castro Monkeys, includes Ian Birkenfeld, Copper Ferris, Remington Meador and Jack Wanjura.

Hart Junior High Robotics team placed fifth at the GEAR Robotics tournament in Amarillo this last weekend. They led after two rounds but fell to fifth in the third round. Members of the team include Jasmin Flores, Lilianna Rivera, Adrian Goboy and Oliver Garcia. Coaching the team is Don Bell.

State sales tax revenue $3.7B in February

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced the state sales tax revenue totaled $3.69 billion in February, 0.05 percent more than in February 2023. The majority of February sales tax revenue is based on sales made in January and remitted to the agency in February.

Firefighters in the Texas Panhandle continue to battle several active wildfires that have burned around 1.3 million acres, destroyed at least 500 structures and killed thousands of livestock; two people have been confirmed dead.
