“All Together Now” is the theme of our 2023 summer reading program for youngsters, which has begun and will run through July 28. Here at Rhoads Memorial Library, we are still registering Castro County youth through age 17, for this annual event.

Local students on ASU Dean’s List

Angelo State University announced the students achieving the Dean’s List for the 2023 spring semester. Included on the list were Addie Dyer of Nazareth, who is majoring in pre-nursing, and Harlie Millican of Dimmitt, who is also majoring in pre-nursing.

South Plains College in Levelland recognized students who were named to the President’s List and Dean’s List for the Spring 2023 semester. Hannah Ames and Alexandra Mora, both of Dimmitt, were among more than 300 students on the President’s list.

The Nazareth Swifts advanced to their third state playoff run after defeating the May Tigers for the Regional championship in a double header on Monday, 15-0 and 6-5. The games were played at Stanton High School.

Abbott calls special session

Governor Greg Abbott at the request of Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, called for special session of the Texas Legislature, was to begin Monday at 9 p.m. Only the governor can call a special legislative session. Lawmakers can only pass bills related to the agenda the governor sets.
