State sales tax 3.8B in May

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar reported that state sales tax revenue totaled $3.84 billion in May, 4.1 percent more than in May 2022. The majority of May sales tax revenue is based on sales made in April and remitted to the agency in May.

Three of Texas’ 10 Most Wanted are back in custody following their arrests last month in Lubbock, Dallas and Killeen. David Thomas was arrested May 17; Nehemiah Hicks was arrested May 22; and Kentrell Fletcher was arrested May 25. A Crime Stoppers reward was paid in Thomas’ arrest.

Governor Greg Abbott appointed John Scott as interim attorney general in the wake of the Texas House impeachment of Ken Paxton and his subsequent suspension from office pending a trial in the state Senate.

Governor Greg Abbott last Wednesday appointed John Scott as the short-term attorney general of Texas, under Article 15, Section 5 of the Texas Constitution. The appointment comes following the impeachment of Ken Paxton by the Texas House of Representatives over allegations of misconduct and crimes.

The Nazareth Swifts advanced to the state playoffs after defeating the May Tigers for the Regional championship in a double header on Monday, 15-0 and 6-5. The games were played at Stanton High School.
