A Castro County Farm Bureau leader visited with state lawmakers recently about the right to farm in the Lone Star State. A proposed constitutional amendment, HJR 126 by Rep. DeWayne Burns, aims to protect the right to farming, ranching, timber production and wildlife management in Texas.

Sales tax revenue hits $4.1B in April

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar Monday said state sales tax revenue totaled $4.09 billion in April, 6.7 percent more than in April 2022. The majority of April sales tax revenue is based on sales made in March and remitted to the agency in April.
The Nazareth FFA Homesite Team competed at the state contest held at Tarleton State University among 59 other teams. They placed 21st overall. Team members include Caysen High, Maddie Leochner, Harrison Meador, Payton Durbin and Max Snead.

NHS, HHS advance to state track meet

The Region 1- 1A track and field championship was held on April 28-29 at South Plains College in Levelland, with approximately 38 schools participating the prelims and finals. Of the 20 plus athletes competing from Nazareth and Hart, six advanced to the state tournament.

Dimmitt track and field competed at the 3A Area 03/04 meet on Friday in Denver City at Mustang Stadium. Five athletes will be advancing to the Regional meet in Abilene on April 28-29 at Elmer Gray Stadium.

Swifts shut out Valley

Sterl Welps didn’t allow a single run as the Nazareth Swifts defeated Valley 20-0 on Monday. Welps allowed just three hits. Luke Schulte led Nazareth to victory by driving in six runs. Schulte went 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in runs on a home run in the third and a double in the fifth.

Swifts take win against Clarendon

Both teams were strong on the pitcher’s mound Saturday, but the Nazareth Swifts defeated Clarendon 3-2. Nazareth pitchers allowed just four hits to Clarendon. Clarendon got on the board in the first inning. An error scored one run for Clarendon.

Naz, Hart tracksters qualify for regionals

It was a big Area track meet for the Castro County 1A athletes last week, with around 24 qualifying to compete at Regional individual and relay events, with 19 from Nazareth and five from Hart.
