Abbott orders wildfire resources mobilized

Governor Greg Abbott on Tuesday directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to mobilize state firefighting resources to support local officials in their response to wildfires impacting the Panhandle, the South Plains, West, and Northwest Texas.

The Nazareth Swiftettes are headed for the Texas UIL State Basketball tournament at the Alamo Dome in San Antonio, and was earned by winning two tough games at the Regional tournament this past weekend, defeating Whiteface in the semifinals and Claude for the championship title.

The School Safety and Security Grant ($200,000) and SPAT Grant (Silent Panic Alarm Technology, $4,800) were on the agenda for the Dimmitt ISD school board meeting this past Monday. DISD Superintendent Jill Millican detailed the grants and guidelines.

The Dimmitt Bobcats faced the Alpine Fightin’ Bucks on Tuesday evening and won the Bi-District championship, 72-47. The game was held in Denver City. The Bobcats offense and defense dominated the first quarter, shooting for 21 points and holding Alpine to five points.

The Dimmitt Bobbies softball team fell to the Floydada Whirlwinds, 15-4, in their first game of the season. The Bobbies got off to slow start in the first innings, going scoreless until the fifth inning when they came through with four runs.

The Dimmitt Bobbies came out swinging and scored a big victory over the Sudan Lady Hornets, 22-10. Dimmitt took the lead in the first inning, 4-3, but the second inning the offense brought in a huge 15 runs, to push the lead to 19-4.

The Dimmitt Bobcats baseball team defeated the Hale Center Owls, 10-4. Neither team scored a run in the first two innings, but the Bobcats came through with three hits in both the third and fourth innings to take the lead 6-0.
