Rent in the United States is still climbing according to a report by Realtor. The median rent price across the United States’ 50 largest metro areas is $1,876, which Realtor says is a new record for the 16th consecutive month. Rent is 23.9% higher than 2020 and 27.

Abbott extends emergency SNAP benefits

Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is providing more than $305.5 million in emergency Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) food benefits for the month of August. The allotments are expected to help about 1.5 million Texas households.

Castro County dispatchers received a 911 call early Monday morning reporting that a vehicle hit a tractor plow on Highway 385 just south of Sunnyside. Driver of the 2006 Ford SUV was Antonio Fuentes Medina, 50 of Dimmitt. Driver of the farm tractor was Estevan Porras, 38 of Dimmitt.

Harvest Days offers array of activities

The Castro County Harvest Days celebration is nearing and will have a full schedule of events on Aug. 27. At 9 a.m. there will be fair exhibits at Rhoads Memorial Library; quilters and retired teachers will be at the Gathering Place; and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
