Unemployment drops in several states

Unemployment rates were lower in August in 15 states and the District of Columbia and stable in 35 states, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Texas was among the three states having the largest job increases at +681,000.

HPWD adopts ad valorem tax rate

During their Sept. 14 meeting, the High Plains Underground Water Conservation District (HPWD) Board of Directors approved a resolution setting the 2021 ad valorem tax rate at $0.0051 per $100 valuation for operation and maintenance of the district. The adopted 2021 tax rate of $0.0051 is $0.

Bobcats defeat Sunray, 30-12

The Dimmitt Bobcats came in with a big win over the Sunray Bobcats at the homecoming game on Friday. Sunray got the action started with a touchdown on an 18-yard pass in the first quarter, no extra points, putting them up 0-6 over Dimmitt.

The Nazareth Swifts came through with a strong win over the Groom Tigers on Friday, 40-22. Groom took the lead in the first quarter, scoring a touchdown on a 30-yard pass with extra points, 8-0.
