Harvest Days set for Sept. 27

The Castro County Fair and Harvest Days is edging closer and set for Sept. 27.Participants, including those entering the fair as well as vendors and food trucks are encouraged to watch for deadlines and set up times.Booth prices range from $40 to $60 depending on location, or $75 for food trucks.

Senate approves replacing STAAR

The Texas Senate voted to replace the STAAR exam in public schools with plans to replace the test with three shorter exams.The provision was part of HB 8, a larger school accountability bill by House Public Education Chair Rep. Brad Buckley and sponsored in the Senate by Sen. Paul Bettencourt.

Naz Labor Day Celebration

Nazareth FFA brought back the pioneer days for the Labor Day parade. The parade was a part of the annual Holy Family Parish Labor Day Picnic which included bake shops, raffles, cow patty bingo, concessions, children’s games and water slides, an auction and a roast beef dinner and hamburger supper.

Longhorns beat Tornadoes 46-0

The Hart Longhorns kicked off their season with a win on Friday’s home non-conference game against West Texas Tornadoes 46-0.Tradien Worsham led the rushing with 224 yards on seven carries scoring four touchdowns, and three receptions for 64 yards and one touchdown.
