OKC metro hit with earthquake swarm

As if frigid weather and winter challenges weren’t enough, a series of earthquakes rattled the Oklahoma City metro on Friday evening and Saturday morning, with the largest being a magnitude 4.4. The epicenters of the earthquakes were near Edmond, along Interstate 35, on the north side of the metro.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.1 billion in local sales tax allocations for January, 3.3 percent more than in January 2023. Locally, Castro County received $24,099, up from the 2023 figure of $21.764.

The Castro County Sheriff"s Office will open it's lobby as a warming station starting Saturday January 13, 2024 at 6 p.m. until Tuesday January 16, 2024 7 a.m. due to the Arctic air invading our area. There will be coffee, hot chocolate and water available.
