DHS OAP advances to Area

The Dimmitt High School One Act Play (OAP) cast, directors and stage/tech crew won another “Advancing Play” in the UIL bi-district competition with their performance of “Her Senior Year” in El Paso and set to compete at Area on Wednesday in Seminole. The play was written by Codee Moore.

Hart Robotics Updates

Hart High School robotics students will be attending the State UIL Robotics competition on April 8 in Houston, Texas. According to Robotics Coach Kassie Lamm, this is the first time in a few years that Hart ISD has had a robotics program, adding that the team has worked very hard and learned a lot about mechanics, CAD, 3D Printing, programming, and the engineering design process over the course of the year.

Castro 4H Updates

(Photo left) Castro County 4-H’ers were busy this past week. Seven junior members on the horse judging team competed and placed fourth and seventh at the Traveling Horse Judging hosted by WTAMU. Competing were Hadley Hoelting, Braeli Fuller, Steeley Moore, Quinlee Wheeler, Reagan Schulte, Jett Farris and Sawyer Lunsford.

HPWD shows county water level drop

High Plains Water District field staff recently completed the 2022 water level measurements in HPWD Underground Water Conservation District No. 1, which includes Castro County.

NRCS to host local meeting for public input

The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Castro County and the Running Water Soil and Water Conservation District is seeking input from the public on how to best serve local citizens through Farm Bill conservation programs and technical assistance.

Quilters Add a Stitch in Time

Ogallala Quilters Society members Ina Cleavinger, Donna Hathaway and Karen Hutson recently donated a Quilt of Valor to the Castro County Museum to be on permanent display in the Veterans Building at the museum. The trio are members of the quilt guild that made more than 200 Quilts of Valor presented to Dimmitt veterans in 2019. Director of the museum Leta Dennis said the museum is very honored to be the recipient of this quality piece. The quilt and the many interesting displays and buildings can be seen by visiting the museum at 404 Halsell St. in Dimmitt. Currently, the museum is open by appointment or on special occasions. Hart elected VP for American Agri-Women

American Agri-Women (AAW) elected its national officers at its 2021 national convention recently in Phoenix, Arizonia. AAW, a national coalition of farm, ranch, and agri-business women, is in its 47th year of advocating for agriculture.
