Texas Secretary of State John Scott today provided an update to all eligible Texas voters wishing to register to vote for the March 1 Primary Election: "Every year, the Secretary of State’s Office voluntarily provides voter registration applications to numerous entities, including county election offices, county clerks, public libraries, high school principals, and others. This is an effort to reach and register as many eligible Texas voters as possible and assist them in exercising their constitutional right to vote.

Sheriff presents profiling report to commissioners

Castro County Sheriff Sal Rivera presented the annual Racial Profiling Report at Commissioners Court on Monday. Sheriff Rivera said in summary, there were no complaints of racial profiling in the county and the break down on the census information places the Hispanic/Latino population at 65.9% to 65.7%.

State job numbers improve

Governor Greg Abbott announced the state of Texas smashed another all-time record for job creation by reaching 13,059,600 total jobs, surpassing all previous employment highs. Texas employers added 50,000 jobs over the month of December, marking jobs gains in 19 of the last 20 months, as the state unemployment rate fell to 5.0 percent.
