“Don’t Mess With Texas” Scholarship open to seniors

The Don’t Mess With Texas Scholarship contest is open for all Texas high seniors and applications are due by March 31 Ṫhis contest recognizes Texas high school seniors who are taking an active role in litter prevention in their school or community. The contest is open to any Texas high school senior currently attending public, private or home school and planning to attend an accredited college or university in the Fall 2021 semester.

The touch of another person can make all the difference in our lives. I can remember the hands of my parents from when I was little. Mom’s hands were smooth and soft. You could tell that she took care of them; though, they were not without their own callouses from hours of helping dad in the field. Mom’s hands were always self-sacrificing, they were healing, they were the gentle touch of love. They could not fix everything that was wrong with the world, but they let you know that no matter what, you were loved.

People then, not even those professing to be Christians, would have been appalled at most everything which is now on TV or in the movies. Then there is the revision of history, current political trends and things being made into law.

As we face the winter months, many of us are preparing for a power outage. It is not something we look forward to, but where we live it is a reality. I have batteries in my flashlights, a new gas fireplace in my living room, and candles throughout the house. In fact I just stocked up on candles, so I am set.

Livestock shows begin Jan. 13

It’s that time of year again for the 2021 Nazareth and Castro County Stock Shows, with all the FFA and 4-H showmen set and ready to show off their hard work and livestock projects. The Nazareth Stock Show will be held on Wednesday, Jan.

CRP general signup underway

Agricultural producers and private landowners interested in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) can sign up for the popular program began Jan. 4 and will continue through Feb.

December sales tax revenue down

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced today he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $790.3 million in local sales tax allocations for December, 3.7 percent less than in December 2019. These allocations are based on sales made in October by businesses that report tax monthly.

Naz National Honor Society inducts new members

The Nazareth ISD National Honor Society held its annual banquet to honor current members and induct new applicants. To be a member, students sent in an application outlining their involvement in the community and school and participate in an interview with Nazareth ISD staff.
