Stimulus check scams reported

The second stimulus check for $600 distributed to Americans has led to unprecedented online scams that broke the $300 million milestone. In Texas, The IRS reported 12.3 million payments totaling $21.6 billion were made for the first round – second most in the nation.

Texas in deep freeze

President Joe Biden declared an emergency on Monday, unlocking federal assistance to Texas, where temperatures ranged from 28 to minus 8 degrees Fahrenheit. Hundreds of businesses, schools and clinics closed due to a statewide Artic freeze in Texas.

Texas HHS receives National Suicide Prevention Lifeline grant

Texas Health and Human Services announced it is receiving more than $180,000 in funding toward implementing a new national three-digit dialing code, 988, for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

One of the greatest joys of a parent is teaching your child to ride a bike. There is trust, encouragement, and accomplishment involved. There is also frustration, yelling, tears, scrapes and bruises – mainly for the parent. Yet in the end the reward, independence and freedom, far outweighs the risk.
