Texas lawmakers end session

This past Monday was the last day of the regular Texas Legislative session and with it, will come changes that impact public schools, property tax relief, criminal justice, abortion and other issues.

Squatters Bill pass both chambers

The Squatters Bill, SB 38 authored by Sen. Paul Bettencourt, and sponsored by Rep. Angie Chen Button in the House, passed both chambers of the Texas Legislature, and will now head to the governor’s desk to be signed.The Senate voted and the House, 23-8 and the House, 85-44.

Rollins signs waivers on SNAP purchases

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins signed waivers to amend the statutory definition of food for purchase for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programs (SNAP) in Indiana and Iowa, each commencing in 2026.

Texas House approves Ten Commandments bill

The Texas House gave final approval to legislation requiring public schools to place the Ten Commandments in every classroom.The bill, SB 10, would require every public classroom to display a poster or framed copy that is at least 16 inches wide and 20 inches tall.

Commissioners approve request for EMS driver

The Commissioners Court met for their regular session on May 27 and approved vehicle bids, a water crossing and heard other reports.Castro County EMS requested a letter to the state for the addition of a driver.
