Abraham Lincoln said, "If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time or die by suicide." He said that in 1838 warning that mobs or people who disrespected U.S. laws and courts could destroy the United States.

Impressive jobs

Whenever I’m at a business event, somebody brings up lousy jobs he had as a kid. I can relate. Personally, I’ve been canned more times than green beans. In high school, one of my classmates took a job kneading bread at a bakery. But he quit because he didn’t make enough dough.

Editor’s Message

Gun control is a politically and emotionally charged topic. The politics of gun control finds politicians crafting messages that appeal to potential voters who are horrified by gun-related deaths. The emotions of gun control find people unwilling to consider the facts behind gun-related deaths.

With time on my hands and no summer trips planned, I’ve been reading a book of fairy tales. I’ve found many versions of the Three Pigs classic. Here’s a condensed story. An old sow supports three grown sons. She tires of feeding them and tells the boys to go “seek your fortune.

Editor’s Message

I bet I am not the only noticing how expensive restaurants are now. Even fast-food places are getting so high, I am starting to avoid them. Inflation is taking its toll on everything from gas to groceries, clothing and pretty much everything.

A return to fashion

All my life, I’ve found it hard to resist a good bargain. So, the pandemic briefly curtailed my excellent purchasing decisions. I was always out in the stores, shopping for the latest in exercise equipment, self-help videos, or ideas to impress my supervisors. And I really liked clothes.

Odessa man sentenced for murder of brother

An Odessa man accepted a plea deal on Tuesday and will serve 12 years for the murder of his brother, Raymond Hernandez, on Sept. 20, 2020, in Lubbock. James Hernandez will also receive credit for time already served.
