Deadly explosion, fire rocks dairy

A deadly explosion and fire at South Fork Dairy Farm in Castro County rendered one person hospitalized in critical condition on Monday and killed thousands of dairy cattle. The Castro County Sheriff ’s Office 911 Dispatch received multiple calls Monday evening around 7:21 p.m.

Right to farm bills pass Texas House

The Texas House of Representatives passed a proposed right to farm constitutional amendment and two right to farm bills. Supported by the Texas Farm Bureau (TFB), the three pieces of legislation are HJR 126, HB 1750 and HB 2308.

Fourteen members of the Nazareth High School tennis team traveled to South Plains College in Levelland to compete in the Regional tournament on Monday and Tuesday Six players will be advancing to compete at state.

A bill, SB 8, that would create a program to let parents use state funds to pay for private schools was approved in the Texas Senate, moving one step closer to a House vote, where it is expected to face opposition.
The DHS Bobbies Golf team finished up with district and finished up and qualifi ed as the second-place team. Alexis Quiroz won second place individual. Team members include Mercedes Peralta, Emma Conyers, Camila Madrigal, Renata Rodriguez, Alexis Quiroz, Bray Chavira and Cayley Carrasco.

Bobcats take sixth inning win

Dimmitt Bobcats Varsity nabbed the lead late in the game in an 8-6 victory over the Tulia Hornets on Tuesday. The game was tied at six with the Bobcats batting in the bottom of the sixth when Jorge Peña drew a walk, scoring one run.

The Dimmitt Bobcats stayed in it until the end, but River Road pulled away late in a 13-1 victory on Saturday. The game was tied at one with River Road batting in the top of the fourth, but River Road scored two runs and didn’t look back.
