USDA expands eligibility, enhances benefits

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) updated several conservation, livestock and crop disaster assistance programs to give more farmers, ranchers, and tribes the opportunity to apply for and access programs that support recovery following natural disasters.

Robotics teams aiming for league title

Robotics teams from Nazareth, Dimmitt and Hart competed at the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC), Meet 3 this past weekend. The Naz robotics teams have been rising to the top of their league again this season. Team 18570 is currently ranked third and 16617 is ranked fourth.

Hart VFD is an intricate part of fire safety, not only in Hart, but in the county with Dimmitt VFD and Nazareth VFD being called out to grass fires, residence fires as well as answering calls to car and truck crashes.

Hart VFD acquires brush truck

The Hart Volunteer Fire Department of Castro County received a $220,000 grant from the Texas A&M Forest Service Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program to purchase a large brush truck. The 2022 Freightliner has a 1,500-gallon tank.

Hegar distributes $1.8B in sales tax allocations

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced today he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.07 billion in local sales tax allocations for January 2023, 7.6 percent more than in January 2022. Castro County showed a positive change at 14.

Texas Legislature gavels in for session
