HB 3 legislation could reform governor’s emergency powers

The Texas House approved HB 3 legislation which would affirm the governor’s ability to suspend state laws during a pandemic and allow overriding local orders issued by county judges or mayor if inconsistent with state orders, as well as involve the legislature during such instances.

AgTexas Farm Credit Services announced the winners of the AgTexas AgYouth scholarships following a live drawing on Facebook. Three Nazareth students will be the recipients of $1,000 scholarships: Emma Kleman, Nazareth 4-H, Grady McAlister, Nazareth 4-H, and Luke Betzen, Nazareth FFA.

TxDOT continues to work on completion of the highway project that has lasted around three years in Dimmitt, with hopes of being complete in June, and minor details completed by August. Crews were laying asphalt last week near the square and will continue this week.

DISD trustees elect school board officers

The Dimmitt ISD Board of Trustees met on May 10 and approved the results of the regular election for Places 1 and 5. All places were uncontested. The oath of offices was administered by Darla Fisher to Richard Martinez – Place 1, and Justin Edwards - Place 5.

Dimmitt City Manager Daniel Jackson announced that the next playground project will be getting underway. Jackson said that Playgrounds Etc. from Midland, Texas will begin construction on a playground located directly by the Skate Park on Western Circle.
