Gov. Greg Abbott on Tuesday issued an executive order banning local governments and schools from requiring masks. Local governments were ordered to abolish their mask mandates by May 21, and schools must do so by June 4, according to the executive order.

Comptroller Glenn Hegar distributed nearly $1.1 billion in monthly sales tax revenue to local governments this past week. Hagar said the allocations for this May were 28.4 percent more than May 2020, and 21.9 percent more than May 2019.
