HPWD releases water level measurement report

High Plains Water District has published the results of the 2023 water level measurement, showing an average decline of -0.71 feet. The average decline was calculated in the groundwater levels of the Ogallala/Edwards- Trinity (High Plains) Aquifer (ETHP) from 2022 to 2023.

Bobcats defeat Wolves, 15-8

The Dimmitt Bobcats came on strong against Dalhart last Tuesday, winning 15-8 The Bobcats got things started in the first inning when Jorge Pena tripled on a 1-1 count, scoring three runs and ending the period leading 6-4.

Bobcats fall to Falcons

The Dimmitt Bobcats fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 12-0 loss to the Bushland Falcons. Bobcats pitcher Mario Lopez took the loss for Dimmitt, pitching 1.2 innings, 28 strikes in 56 pitches with one strikeout, allowing six hits, eight runs and three walks. Edwin Macias pitched 2.

Swifts win no hitter against Patriots

The Swifts came out with big win over the Valley Patriots in a no-hitter, 13-1. Nazareth Swifts Varsity secured the victory thanks to eight runs in the first inning. Heiman, Tanner Birkenfeld, Braden Bullard, Will Young, Luke Schulte, and Birkenfeld all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.

A salute to my dentists

Every morning when my mirror smiles back, I am grateful to two dentists who have helped me for decades. They must be darn good, because thanks to regular visits I’ve retained excellent cuspids, bicuspids, plus a host of workable molars. I am not the best patient.

This is an oldie - but a goodie. A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be very liberal, and among other liberal ideals, was very much in favor of higher taxes to support more government programs.
