Following another successful year for the Pink Ladies Chili Cookoff, the group presented a check for $17,600 to the Dimmitt Fire Volunteer Fire Department. The annual event brings in the largest local donation to the DFVW, with the Pink Ladies staunchly supporting the funding of the firefighters each year.

It was the biggest year yet for the Pink Ladies and Dimmitt Fire Department at the Chili Cookoff and Golf Tournament, raising $17,600 to benefit the DFVD.
The Pink Ladies presented a check to the DFVD last Thursday evening.

Saving Our Aquifer Field Day set for Oct. 13

Mike Carter, director of the Playa Lakes Joint Venture, Lafayette, Colorado, will highlight a panel of speakers at a Stewarding Our Aquifer Field Day presented by Ogallala Commons.
The event will be held Oct. 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the Floyd County Friends Unity Center near Floydada.

Allen Acker of Nazareth harvested an elk on Tuesday morning. It was located approximately 2 miles east of Dimmitt. Though free ranging elk exist over a large portion of West Texas, a license is required to hunt. Free-range elk are considered exotic and there is no season and minimal red tape when comes to hunting.

Sales tax revenue up 17.2%

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced that state sales tax revenue totaled $3.69 billion in September, 17.2 percent more than in September 2021.
The majority of September sales tax revenue is based on sales made in August and remitted to the agency in September.

Bobcats fall to Hornets, 36-33

The Dimmitt Bobcats suffered a narrow loss in a tough game to the Highland Park Hornets, 36-33.
The first quarter, the Bobcats got the action started with a touchdown by Sabian Martinez on a 2-yard run and extra-point kick by Diego Santellano, to take the lead 70.

South Plains Fair runs through weekend

The 2022 Panhandle-South Plains is under way and run through Oct. 1.
Gate hours of operation are Sunday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 8 a.m. to midnight. Carnival hours begin at 3 p.m. on weekdays and at 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
