Hegar distributes $1.2B in sales tax allocations

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $1.2 billion in local sales tax allocations for May, 11.8% more than in May 2021.

Mick honored as music scholar

Paden Mick, DHS senior percussionist of the Bobcat Band, was recently honored as a Texas Music Scholar. He was nominated for this honor by his director, John Zalman. The award is given by the Texas Music Educators Association, which sponsors the Texas All-State Bands, Orchestras, and Choirs.
Nazareth students Chole Birkenfeld, Bliss Betzen, and Kelsie Gunter competed at the 2022 State UIL Meet in journalism. The team won state and Gunter was honored with the Tops of Texas award, best of 1A through 6A champions.

Nazareth journalism students scored state medals last week in 2022 State UIL Academic Meet in Austin. Senior Bliss Betzen, sophomore Chloe Birkenfeld, and freshmen Gracie Raef and Kelsie Gunter, competed in news writing, feature writing, news writing, copy editing, literary criticism and headlines.

Castro County athletes from Nazareth and Hart High Schools competed at the Texas UIL State Track and Field 1-A Meet this past weekend and brought home three medals. Nazareth’s Caroline Myrick, NHS junior, competed in three events and claimed a bronze medal in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.

Nazareth senior Tagan Ramsey will be receiving a $10,000 Texas 4-H Foundation McLean Estate Scholarship. The Texas 4-H Foundation promotes and supports youth development in leadership, vocational skills, critical thinking, social skills and citizenship, as well as raising money for 4-H.
