Olen Schulte Rodeo set for June 3-4

The annual Olen Schulte Rodeo and Wild West Show is on the calendar for June3-4 and will prove to be as much fun as last year’s event. The rodeo will be held at Marvin Schulte’s arena five mile east of Nazareth behind Elmer’s Package Store.

Naz Swifts State Bound

The Nazareth Swifts punched their ticket to state, beating the #1 ranked Ira Bulldogs in two of three games in the Regional playoffs this past weekend. Both teams came to the Region I-1A baseball championship series undefeated.

Area students graduate from SPC

South Plains College had more than 1,300 students who received their academic degree or certificate on May 13, including several area students. Maria Del Cielo Esqueda-Moran of Dimmitt graduated with an Associate Degree in Business Administration; Bryan Morales of Hart earned his Welding Certificate - Basic Processes; Delylah Olivarez of Dimmitt graduated with an Automotive Collision Certificate – Basic; and Emma Schilling of Dimmitt graduated with an Associate Degree in General Studies .

Lujan, Garcia sign to compete at next level

Dimmitt High School cross country runners and tracksters Jordan Garcia and Kaylee Lujan signed letters of intent to compete at colleges. Lujan signed with Oklahoma Panhandle State University and Garcia signed with East Central University in Oklahoma. Lujan recently broke the DHS 200-meter record and Garcia is a threetime state qualifier in cross country.

GEAR finals contest updates

Castro County 4-H and Dimmitt Middle School robotics had a strong day the Texas Tech GEAR (Get Excited About Robotics) finals contest on Saturday. The DMS team of Josh Seaton Roman Holguin, and Ivan Godinez placed first in their division. The Castro County 4-H team of Spencer Acker, Michael Fulkerson and Drew Bennett advanced to the finals. Colton Bennett was added to the team with Fulkerson’s absence. Out of 24 teams they placed second.

RES GT to hold summer camp

A GT summer camp is scheduled at Richardson Elementary for GT students. The camp will offer engineering challenges, project creations and science experiments.

Naz Youth Baseball League signups underway

Nazareth’s youth baseball season will begin on May 31. All incoming pre-kindergarten through fifth-grade students are welcome to play. The league will be divided into three categories based on age, with T-ball for pre-k and kindergarten students; coach pitch for first and second graders; and machine pitch for third through fifth grade players.

Swifts advance to Regional semifinals

The Nazareth Swifts baseball team captured the Regional Quarterfinals Championship against Borden County with back-to-back shutouts, 10-0 and 13-0, advancing them to the Regional Semifinals. The Swifts head into the semifinals round with a 16-0 record for the season.

County tracksters medal at state

Castro County athletes from Nazareth and Hart High Schools competed at the Texas UIL State Track and Field 1-A Meet this past weekend and brought home three medals. Nazareth’s Caroline Myrick, NHS junior, competed in three events and claimed a bronze medal in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.63.
