Farmers eligible for premium benefit on cover crops

Farmers are eligible for a "premium benefit" of up to $5 an acre on crop insurance coverage if they planted cover crops this year, according to the USDA’s Risk Management Agency. The so-called Pandemic Cover Crop Program is part of the administration’s $6 billion Pandemic Assistance for Producers initiative.

Area students graduate from SPC

Several students from Castro County recently received their academic degree or certificate from South Plains College. Seven students from Dimmitt, Nazareth and Hart were among the 1,300 students in the graduating SPC class.

SB 930 opens doors to assisted living transparency

Senate Bill 930 has been sent to Governor Greg Abbott after passing out of the Texas House and Senate last week. If signed by Abbott, the bill would make the number of cases of communicable disease found in in nursing, assisted living and continuing care facilities in the state.

Grimsley in top six at TJHRA finals

Junior high rodeo competitor Kolton Grimsley from Nazareth recently placed in the top six in Texas Junior High Finals team roping. The finals were held on May 23-30 in Gonzales, Texas with several hundred participants.

TxDOT to begin sealcoat project

More than 372 miles of state roadways are scheduled for preventative maintenance work during the month of June, including USD 395 and FM 145 in Castro County. The roads are part of the Lubbock District’s 2021 sealcoat program.
