Hegar distributes $1B in sales tax revenue

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar is sending cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.04 billion in local sales tax allocations for September, 13.1 percent more than in September 2021. These allocations are based on sales made in July by businesses that report tax monthly.

Hands of Hope food pantry seeks new location

Castro County Hands of Hope is desperately in need of a new location. Cofounder and current vice president Janet Sammann said the building they currently occupy has been sold and must be vacated by Oct. 1.

City council approves water rate increases

The Dimmitt City Council on Aug. 29, at an open and public meeting, approved amending the Official Fee Schedule to increase the water rates, sewer rates, garbage rates, various permit fees, and other fees charged by the City of Dimmitt to be effective Sept. 15.

The Nazareth Swifts came out on top against the Hart Longhorns this past Friday, 67-6. Nazareth offense got things started in the first quarter with a run by Luke Schulte with a 31-yard run for a Swifts touchdown, with Brett Heitschmidt scoring the extra two point.

The Dimmitt Bobcats lost to the Olton Mustangs last Friday 46-16. Olton got things started in the first quarter with a 12-yard run and extra point to put them ahead 7-0. They followed up with another 37-yard run and extra point to widen their lead to 14-0.

The State Board of Education on Tuesday took a step to delay curriculum revision until 2025. In a 7-2 preliminary vote, the agreed to only adjust the curriculum with directives to comply with the state’s 2021 law targeting “critical race theory.
