Dallas PD make arrests following interview

The Dallas Police Department arrested two men in connection a fatal shooting in March after interviewing Dallas Cowboys cornerback Kelvin Joseph who was a person of interest. The DPD were seeking an interview this past week with the Dallas player about his involvement in the shooting.

WTAMU’s Engler College of Business to host golf tourney

Teams of four are sought for West Texas A&M University’s first Paul and Virginia Engler College of Business Golf Classic, set for April 28. The tournament, which will raise funds for scholarships in the Engler College of Business, will begin at 1 p.m.

HPWD deadline approaching for proposals

Applications for research/demonstration funding with High Plains Underground Water Conservation District (HPWD) are due Monday, May 2. A standard application form is available on the HPWC district web site at hpwd.org/research and should accompany the proposal.

CASTRO COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE Persons Arrested & Booked into Jail April 4 to April 17 All information of persons arrested and booked into the Castro County Jail are open records: April 4 Nabor Hernandez Jr., 56 of Olton, was transported back to Castro County from Hale County on a Castro County warrant for Possession of a Controlled Substance PG 1 under 1 gram-Motion to Revoke Probation. Jose Gil III, 37 of Dimmitt, was arrested by the Dimmitt Police for Public Intoxication.

Naz FFA Updates

Nazareth FFA Homesite students advanced to qualify for the State competition after placing second against 11 teams and 38 students at Area. Team members include Dayson Schacher, champion individual; Harrison Meador, 4th; Payton Durbin, 10th; Max Snead and Maddie Leochner. The Naz Homesite team will be competing on April 28 at Tarleton State University on April 28. Other Naz FFA judging teams competing in state contests: Cotton and Horse/Texas Tech University on April 23; Farm Business Management and Forage/Sam Houston State University on April 29; and Vet science and Livestock/ Texas A&M on April 30. In all 21 Nazareth students will be competing in seven different state contests.

Fire scorches fence

Fires can quickly break out and do damage, as Dimmitt resident Glenn Hatla discovered. While in Amarillo, he received a call from his son that his fence was on fire. Dimmitt VFD answered the call and extinguished the blaze before it could spread to his home and other structures in the neighborhood on Pine Street across from Colonial Funeral Home.

National Telecommunicators Week

As a part of National Telecommunicators Week, Sheriff Sal Rivera offered a big “Thank You” to the Castro County Sheriff’s Office 911 operators for being the lifeline for law enforcement officers, fire departments, EMS and communities in the county. Rivera said they are the “unseen heroes.” Serving the CCSO 24/7 are (front row) Nora Quiroz, full-time dispatcher; Brittany Llamas, communications supervisor/administrative assistant; (back row) Sal Ortiz, part-time; Mischa Baldwin, asst. communications supervisor; Eva Campolla, full-time dispatcher; and Emilio Jimenez, full-time dispatcher.
