Better Living for Texans and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service are excited to offer a new class series focused on Healthy Carbohydrates. This 4-class series is intended for those who want to learn more about how to prevent chronic disease, specifically diabetes and obesity, through nutrition practices.

The Immaculate Conception Church will be hosting its 2021 Gran Jamaica on July 17, with lots of activities planned. The event will be held at the Castro County Expo Building from 11 a.m.

The Panhandle Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) will be holding a Summer Camp Night event at the Dimmitt High School football field from 6-9 p.m. on June 27.

Zach and Sheri Smith donated a 1-acre package of fish to restore the lake at Sheffy Park in June. The package included 750 Bluegill, 200 Bass, 10 pounds of minnows, 200 Redear, 100 hybrid Bluegill and 300 Castfish. They also threw in Koi and some bull frog tadpoles that will eventually curb some mosquitoes. Zach and Sheri Smith, Alee Christian, City Councilman Scott Sheffy, and City Manager Daniel Jackson met at the lake to dump the fish in.

The Supreme Court ruled Monday that the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) went too far in blocking some education-related aid for student athletes. The decision comes as athletes struggle to preserve amateur status.

Local Nazareth High School student, Kari Schulte, has been awarded a $1,500 scholarship from America's Farmers Grow Ag Leaders, sponsored by Bayer Fund. In the fall, Schulte will study Animal Science at Kansas State University.
